The MegaMouth for ActionAid UK
The Brief
Make a big noise in the lead up to the G20 Put People First Rally. So ActionAid would get more people rallying and petitioning in the name of jobs, justice and the climate.
The Solution
Please enter ‘The MegaMouth’!!! Our caped superhero toured the streets of London in the week preceding the Put People First Rally, drumming up support from the Great British public.
The problem was that though The MegaMouth was from planet justice and possessed a Megaphone, when it came to shouting out slogans his mind went blank! So the people were asked to assist by entering their slogans through SMS, Twitter and the ActionAid website, where they could also watch The Megamouth’s antics via a live video stream!

The Result
- The MegaMouth shouts were briefly interrupted by BBC London News, ABC News and CNN as he marched the streets of London.
- There were a host of articles on various influential blogs, websites and newspapers such as Popbitch, Techcrunch, The Telegraph, Wall Street Journal.
- The lovely people at Techcrunch named the activity ‘Protest 2.0‘
- During the activity ActionAid doubled their number of Twitter followers. They now have one of the most subscribed charity Twitter feeds.
- The Put People First Rally was a great success. With more than 35,000 people attending it (more than double the anticipated turnout).
Emma Harbour, Project Manager, ActionAid UK had this to say: (Thanks Em… x)
“Nonsense are a creative, inspiring and talented bunch – in a ridiculously short space of time they were able to create one of the most innovative viral campaigns I have worked on.
Their enthusiasm for their work is contagious and the commitment they showed to our campaign really helped to take it to a different level – they had taken time to understand our messages and the complexities of a politically sensitive campaign, and have continued to provide new and different ideas for continuing our digital campaigning.
I look forward to working with them again.”
